Aftercare

The Next Day

After the first 24 hours, you can remove the Sandierm bandage. Carefully peel it off under lukewarm running water. Gently wash with unscented soap. Rinse well and pat dry with a clean paper towel. Redness, swelling, and tenderness is completely normal. If you want to leave it uncovered, skip to the next section.

To apply a new bandage, clean the area with an alcohol wipe and let dry. Apply fresh Saniderm bandage - this can be left on for up to a week.

Healing Process

Wash your tattoo gently twice a day with unscented soap and clean water. Be careful not to over-wash, which can cause irritation. Apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare ointment once clean. Scabbing, itching, and peeling is expected during the two-week healing process, but never scratch or pick at your tattoo.

After the first few days, switch out the ointment for unscented lotion and apply liberally throughout the day to keep the area moisturized. Practice good hygiene, daily washing, and frequent moisturizing until healed. Depending on the size, most handpoke tattoos heal in one to two weeks.

During the two weeks of healing, avoid direct sun exposure, swimming, soaking in baths or hot tubs, or wearing tight clothing/accessories that could rub against your tattoo while it heals.

Continuous Care

Tattoos are like open wounds and can become infected if not properly cared for. If in doubt, reach out with questions. Please consult a physician if you have an infection or other medical concerns.

Even after your tattoo is fully healed, continue to apply sunscreen (at least 30 SPF) when in the sun to protect the ink from fading over time.

Follow the above aftercare practices to keep your tattoos happy and healthy for years to come!
